There are three Berry Whitehead's.
- The first generation Berry was with a women named Harriet. She was dark skinned with straight black hair. Berry only visited his grandchildren at night.
It has been said that Harriet was Cherokee or asuite Native American. It also has been said that her maiden name was Whitehead and Berry changed his last name from Whitaker to Whitehead. To me this does not seem to be true. It seems that this family could have came from the Whitaker family or plantation in Nash North Carolina. Berry may have been a white man.

- The second generation Berry was married twice. He had one daughter named Beatrice Edge, she died in her twenties. (Ancestry.com also says that He had a son named Dony Whitehead with his first wife.) He had a son named James Battle with his second wife sisters named Fannie Eva. The rest of his kids he had with his second wife Melissa Norwood. Altogether Berry Whitehead had 17 children. Six of his kids died underaged. Berry was not a slave but he was a share cropper and he did not own the land that he cropped.
Berry children names that I know of: Dony, Beatrice, Berry, James, George, James Battle, Douglas Ray, Thomas, Jemmie, Hoover, Florine, Mozella, Novella, Rosella, Lorraine
{James, George, Novella, Rosella may have been into alternative spirituality}

- The third generation Berry had 4 sons and 1 daughter.
